Illy continues in Trieste, where coffee production machinery and methods are constantly improved to steadily reduce the environmental impact.

Safeguarding the environment, both at the Trieste production facility and in the countries producing green coffee, is an essential component of illycaffè’s production process and its policy for sustainable development.

Illys strict adherence to pollution and environmental laws, it also places utmost importance on promoting environmentally-friendly practices among its employees, collaborators and customers.

Illy promotes science in developing countries

Each year, a prize of $100,000 is awarded to either a single scientist, or in some cases, to two scientists who share the prize. The prize is conferred by an international jury, in rotation in the various fields of science.

Illy's long-term focus

illycaffè’s vision to create programs that foster both sustainability and quality goes beyond its awards system in Brazil. The success of this program set the standard for similar programs in Colombia, Guatemala and India. In Ethiopia, illy acknowledged the country’s high quality washed Arabica beans and developed an initiative to increase the business and coffee culture throughout the country – an initiative that has gained support by the International Coffee Organization and the UN’s Common Fund for Commodities.
